Cashman Antiques

We have been trading in antiques for 25 years, and are very fortunate to live and work in the World Heritage City of Bath, England. Peter, who is a local of Bath, specialises in antique arms and armour. Sonia, who is from Boston, USA, dealt for many years in American antiques including American Indian artefacts. She also ran a prestigious art gallery in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Consequently we have not only a wide knowledge of antiques but a strong taste for what the American antique hunter wants and needs.

One of our main advantages is that Bath was the home of the portrait miniature & silhouette. Jane Austen lived around the corner from where we now live. Anyone who was anyone in Georgian England came to Bath. They sat for their portraits in front of such artists as Isabella Beetham, William Hamlet, Jacob Spornberg, Edouart, Rosenberg, etc. etc., and it was no accident that Sue McKechnie the author of British Silhouette Artists and their Work 1760-1860 lived nearby. In fact we still have her own personal reference book. In the later years of the 19th century many wealthy people and military families retired to Bath. Consequently there are still many miniatures and silhouettes in situ, hanging in local houses and we buy much of our stock in this beautiful city. We also specialise in Needlework Samplers and Georgian Silkworks. Indeed we have helped to create some large and important collections over the years.

Bath is the jewel in the crown of England and not to be missed. If you are lucky enough to visit please call us on +44 (0)1225 469497. You will be made most welcome.
